This is an excellent grade of pure resin frankincense, that is grown in abundance in the coastal regions of Somalia. Known as olibanum or boswellia carterii, it burns with a very deep, pleasant aroma that is both earthy and spicy.
Somali Frankincense has been traded on the Arabian Peninsula for more than 5000 years. A mural depicting sacks of frankincense traded from the Land of Punt adorns the walls of the temple of ancient Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut, who died circa 1458 BC.
This Frankincense or Olibanum of the Boswella Carteri tree is imported from Somalia.
